She's such a lovely woman. Corey and I were both tickled with how she swept us out of the way when she opened the door, saying, "Let me see my grandchildren!" while she beamed down at Kendra and Micah. She loaded them right up with Girl Scout cookies... She knows a thing or two about kids, since she raised EIGHT boys! We were also tickled to find her playing computer games on her laptop when we arrived. She's pretty savvy for 88!
As is becoming tradition for us on our road trips, we checked out a local park while we were there:

We drove back up the Oregon Coast, where I nearly met an early fate by trying to scale the rocks down to the beach at sunset... I had to settle for this road-side snapshot:

We also visited the Game Park as part of Micah's early birthday celebration. Man, does that kid love animals:

Another road trip tradition is that I usually re-evaluate our daily routine while Corey's driving, so I came home excited to incorporate different emphases for different days (food/garden on Monday--with trips to the grocery store/u-pick/or just gardening in the yard/cooking something new, reading/writing day on Tuesday--with a trip to the library/writing cards and letters to people, etc.). On our first "food/garden Monday" we made strawberry shortcake from scratch:

We've got a fun book from the library right now, that is based on the real-life story of Edna and the farm she grows up on. She became a famous chef as an adult, and some of her recipes are in the back... which is where we got the strawberry shortcake recipe:

We also made two loaves of banana bread, and Corey commented, "You do realize you didn't have to make everything on the 1st food/garden Monday, right?" His commentary might just have been inspired by the view of the kitchen sink upon his return home from work:

So, there you have it! That's a wee bit of what we've been up to around here.
